Employment law posters are sexy*, so I’m giving you a series about them!

Many of the employment laws we know and love require employers to display posters informing employees of their rights under those laws.

If you’re reading this blog, I hope you already knew that. If you didn’t, I want you to know this is a safe place and I’m here to help.

Getting employment posters right is one of the fundamentals for HR professionals. Basic, but important.

As a good HR professional, you should know what posters are required, who must be provided access to posters, where posters must be posted, how to keep your posters up-to-date, and other important info.

And, depending on your specific situation, part of your job as a valuable HR professional is to decide the best way for your company to comply with these posting requirements. The answer to that will not be the same for every company.

Recently, two things happened that inspired me to write not only this post, but a series of posts. Posts about posters. What were the two sources of inspiration for these posts about posters?

1. The U.S. Department of Labor recently increased the fines for poster noncompliance; and

2. One of my favorite HR professionals (a former client who I hope will soon be a current client—you know who you are!) asked me if I had any recommendations for good employment law poster vendors.

So, over the next few weeks, I’ll share my thoughts about various employment law poster-related topics, such as:

1. What posters are required, and how can a company get them?

2. What are consequences for poster noncompliance?

3. How do the posting requirements work with applicants?

4. How should a company comply with posting requirements for remote employees?

5. How should an employer handle poster obligations when a large percentage of its workforce speaks a language(s) other than English?

If you think I’ve left off some scintillating employment law poster-related topic, please let me know and I’ll address it in the future!

*Sorry, not sorry to anyone who fell for my ingenious trick of working the SEO optimization magic to bring to my blog everyone out there googling “employment law” within 5 words of “sexy”. Welcome! You are my people!
