Let's do this differently!
In 2024, after all we've been through, there's no reason for companies to accept employment law services that are provided the same way they have been provided for decades. We don’t live in that world anymore!
And there's no reason for employment lawyers like me to provide our services the same way as we've done in the past either. We can do better.
In my 25+ years of being an employment lawyer and HR advisor, I've seen many different models for how to provide employment law and HR services. I know what works and what doesn't. And I know that the things that will make you happy to receive (and even pay for!) my employment law/HR help are the same things that will make me happy to give you that help! If you need employment law/HR help, let’s talk about how to give your challenge a modern solution.

Consultation/Advice
This is the bread and butter of my practice, and what many of my clients rely on me for the most. I'm the guy on the other end of the phone or email when you face the day-to-day challenges (OK, sometimes "crises" is the better word!) that come with being in HR. In my 10 years of litigating employment law cases for the defense, and my 10-plus more years counseling and advising hundreds of companies and keeping them out of trouble, I'm pretty confident you won't find another employment lawyer who has seen more than I have!
-
Employment Policies/Agreements/Handbooks
If you're in HR, you've heard sayings like "document, document, document" or "if it isn't documented, it didn't happen" or other similar sayings. While drafting effective and legally helpful employment policies, agreements, handbooks, and other employment-related documents isn't one of the sexiest parts of HR (not surprising with so many other sexy parts of HR to compete with!), it is truly one of the fundamentals that a good HR person must get right. Let me help!
-
Training
See those topics listed to the right under "Practice Areas?" I can provide high-quality, engaging training on any of those topics. I'm also happy to discuss with you which topics should be prioritized for your company, based on employee count, location, industry, culture, and other factors. Both live and virtual training options are available.
-
Legal Representation
This is the service we both hope you don't need from me! But if you find yourself on the receiving end of an EEOC charge, Utah Labor Commission charge, U.S. Department of Labor investigation, demand letter, etc., I can explain the process, potential liability, and options for you, and, when necessary, represent and defend you aggressively and effectively throughout the process.

Getting to Know Bob Coursey of Modern Age Employment Law
I can very clearly point to my taking a class in my second year of law school called "Employment Discrimination" as the event that led me on the path that I'm still on. I loved a lot of my law school classes, but when I took this class, everything clicked for me. I knew what I wanted to do as a lawyer. I sought and ended up getting offered a job right out of law school with Fisher Phillips, one of the country's biggest and best employment law firms.

I’m fascinated by what makes an ad effective.
I’m fascinated by what makes an ad effective. I realized this about myself in my late teens/early 20s. Like most people, this was the time in my life when I became, at least legally speaking, an adult, and started thinking about what the hell I was going to do for a career. For me, this period coincided with my peak Stephen King fandom years. So perhaps unsurprisingly, my first stab at picking a “real” job was to be “a writer.”
